cdWithin a few months of BeadforLife's launch our members starting writing and singing original songs about their experiences of rolling beads and hoping for a better future. Soon a dozen songs about living with AIDS, running from the war in the north, and growing older became part of our get togethers. Through dancing, drumming, and singing our members would share their lives with us.

In 2006 BeadforLife webmaster and musician Michael Waters came to Uganda and produced From the Heart of BeadforLife. Recording engineer Anthony Maki volunteered his time and experience to create the best sound possible. Sponsors for the project raised funds to assist with the cost of travel and production.

Michael and Anthony assembled a travelling recording studio and arrived in Kampala in late March, 2006. With only two weeks to record the music, they ran a busy schedule.

To get everyone used to the choir
process, the recording studio was set up for four practice sessions. Because of rolling power outages in Kampala, and to ensure a quiet setting, the National Theatre stage was rented for one day.

What a day it was! The beaders all wore their BeadforLife T-shirts, and from 8:30 AM until 4:30 PM they worked and sang. The music they made!

Now the music of the Beaders' lives can reach far and wide, telling the story of their lives.
