Are you an educator or youth group leader looking for a way to engage your students in global poverty issues? BeadforLife is proud to offer an interactive five-day service learning curriculum to help educators and youth join in the fight against poverty.

The BeadforLife Curriculum is designed for grades 6-12 but is easily adapted for younger and older students. Using the curriculum is easy and BeadforLife has included everything to support you from start to finish including step-by-step instructions, reproducible handouts, video, original African music and much more.

“I went on line, was intrigued by the examples shared and decided to purchase the full package. And I am so happy that I did. I truly think it added to the students understanding of Africa and poverty. It was amazing how it complimented our current curriculum and even took it to the next level of awareness."
Kristie Coughlin — Silver Lake Intermediate School (click to see a video of their project)

Throughout the week, students will use hands-on activities, simulations, and discussions to better understand global poverty and ways they can take concrete actions to help. Many teachers adopt the curriculum to fit into fewer sessions.   Students will learn what it is like to live on a dollar a day, they will be introduced to the disparity of wealth worldwide by sharing a cake (or pizza or other yummy food), and they will simulate building a very small house typical of slums all over the world.

A powerful part of the curriculum is the ability for the students to touch and wear our beads, and connect what they are learning with the inspiring stories of the hard-working beaders a world away

BeadforLife offers the unique opportunity to host a BeadParty, allowing youth to raise both awareness about poverty and money to help in the fight to end it. Our ultimate goal is for the next generation of youth to become informed global citizens who feel empowered to alleviate poverty wherever they encounter it; whether it be in their local community or in a remote village half-way across the world.
